The following list of aerobic activities gives you a snap shot of the types of aerobic exercise routines you can incorporate into your fitness training. I touched upon this when discussing the benefits of aerobic exercise. The more of these you perform, the more likely you are to achieve your ultimate fitness goal. It’s all down to motivation.
I’ve made this point many times throughout this site: never underestimate the importance of motivation. Your motivation to exercise is the only thing that will get you to where you want to be!
One way to keep your motivation high is to make sure you have plenty of variation in your workout routines. If you keep things the same indefinitely, you’ll just get bored and won’t achieve anything. Which now brings us back to the list of aerobic activities!
Choose From The Aerobic Exercise List
Running and jogging are probably the most popular, or at least the most accessible of the list. If you are jogging to lose body fat, the calories burned running and jogging can be amazingly high. Obviously it depends on many factors, but it roughly works out as 100 calories per mile. So if you build up to a 6 miler, you’ll burn roughly 600 calories. But that doesn’t include post exercise calorie burn. (It’s probably closer to 1000 calories including the following 24 hours of elevated metabolism.)
Hill walking is one of my favourites from this list of aerobic activities. Just find yourself a steep hill maybe half a mile long and just walk up and down it. Keep your pace quite fast and constant. You’ll be surprised just how tough this can be. Your heart and lungs are in for a shock!
Cycling is another great aerobic exercise. If you want to lose weight cycling, all you have to do is cover the miles. If you cycled at a steady 12 miles per hour, the calories burned cycling per hour is around 600 to 650.
And then there’s another one of my favourites. Rowing. The cardio benefits of a rowing machine are literally outstanding, as is the strength endurance benefits. And there are many ways of varying the intensity to keep you from getting bored. Take a look at some example rowing machine workouts from the list of free workout plans.
And the final aerobic activity on this list is circuit training. If you’re after fat burning, circuit training is a must! Not only does it burn off excess calories at an unbelievable rate, it also increases your lean muscle tissue. Why is this good? Because the greater your lean tissue the greater your metabolism, and the greater your calorie expenditure.
And circuits can be so versatile. Dumbell circuit training or bodyweight circuit training, or a combination of the two. It’s just so versatile.
Summary For The List Of Aerobic Activities
Obviously the list above is only very short. There are dozens of exercises you can add to it. But it contains some powerful activities to add to your aerobic exercise routines which will help you achieve your fitness goals.
All of the above fall into the easy aerobics category. By this I mean all of them are beginner friendly. If you are new to fitness and exercise, these activities can be used progressively. Start off easy and work up from there.
Remember the importance of motivation. If at any point you are lacking motivation to exercise, maybe your exercise is becoming stagnant. Take another look at the list and choose a different aerobic exercise, or browse through the list of free workout plans for something new or some inspiration.
Finally, don’t forget that the benefits of aerobic exercise far out weight the benefits of being a couch potato. So get your fitness gear on and get to it!
